FAQ on Domain Name

1. I'm no longer using my domain name, can I cancel my registration?

If you no longer want your domain name or service, you can:

  • Simply allow your registration term to expire.
  • If you wish to completely delete your domain name*, after it's been registered for 5 days or more, please follow the steps below. The removal of the domain name terminates all access and rights to the domain name and all Register.com services associated with the domain name. If you still wish to remove your domain name, please send us:
    • A notarized letter signed by the Registrant requesting us to delete your domain name(s) from your account.
    • The notarized letter must include the domain name(s) to be deleted and the Registrant current contact information.
    • If the Registrant is a company, we must obtain a request to delete the domain name on a notarized company letterhead signed by an official signatory of that company.
    • *At this time, only .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .name and .us domain names can be deleted from the registry.

2. How do I change my DNS settings?

If you wish to modify your domain names DNS settings you must first login to your Account Manager.

Once you have logged into your account follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the domain name you wish to modify.
  2. Scroll down the screen until you see the existing DNS servers and blank text boxes where you can add your new servers.
  3. When you have completed your entry click ‘Continue’.
  4. Review your changes and click ‘Continue’ to confirm your changes.

3. How do I change the WHOIS record?

To set up/change a WHOIS Contact, log into Account Manager and click on the domain name whose WHOIS records you wish to update.

The service management page will appear. Click on the View Registrant, Administrative Contact and Technical Contact link to proceed. Underneath the DOMAIN CONTACTS (WHOIS CONTACTS) section you will be able to Edit the contact information for the Account Holder (Registrant), the WHOIS Administrator, and the WHOIS Technical contact. Click on the contact that you wish to update, which will display a screen that permits you to create a new contact or update the existing contact.

When you are finished editing the appropriate fields click Continue to proceed, verify your contact and click Continue. This will display the main service page with a confirmation of the requested changes.

Please be advised the WHOIS record may take up to 24hrs to update.

4. Why isn't my domain name working?

If you just registered your domain name - It generally takes 12 to 24 hours for a newly registered domain name to begin resolving on the Internet, (.com or .net extensions), all other general extensions require from 24 to 72 hours. Additionally, some International Extensions can even take 7 to 10 calendar days to become visible.

If your Web site is not appearing - Have you recently modified your Domain Name System Server (DNS Server) or IP Address (A Record) settings? DNS Server changes generally take 12 to 24 hours for a .com or .net and 24 to 72 hours for any other general extension to publish throughout the Internet. IP Address (A Record) changes require 12-24 hours. You may also want to double check that you entered your modifications correctly.

If you can view both old and new Web sites at your domain name - Have you recently modified your DNS Servers or IP Address settings? DNS Server changes generally take 12 to 24 hours for a .com or .net extension and 24 to 72 hours for any other general extension to publish throughout the entire Internet. IP Address (A Record) changes require between 12- 24 hours. These changes may have been accepted at some locations on the Internet, but not others, resulting in the discrepancy.

Additionally, check to make sure that you only have one set of DNS Servers listed for your domain name. Basically, if you have added one or more DNS Servers and have not deleted inaccurate or outdated server listings, computers on the Internet will not know which is truly authoritative. This will result in inconsistent resolution of your domain name.

If you are using a Web hosting company or Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the correct information is listed, please contact the administrator of your DNS Servers to make sure that appropriate zone file entries for your domain name have been created.

If none of the above apply - please contact Customer Service using the 'Submit Support Ticket' and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you.

5. Who is the legal Registrant of a domain name?

The individual or organization that initially registered the domain name is the Registrant, unless an official Transfer of Registrant has been completed since the initial registration.

Domain names registered with or transferred to Cloone Space will designate the individual or company that initially created the user name of the account as the Registrant for all domain names associated with that user name.

Only the current Registrant has contractual rights to the domain name registration.

6. What is a reinstatement fee?

Following the expiration of a domain registration we may have the ability to reinstate the account so that you can renew your expired domain before it has become generally available to the public. There are no guarantees that we will be able to reinstate a domain after its expiration. If you would like an expired domain registration to be reinstated, you will be charged our then-current reinstatement fee in addition to the renewal fees for your domain registration.
